I attended Edinburgh College of Art in 1979 before 'taking French leave' to work in various itinerant jobs in Europe in the early 1980's including a stint working for the US Army in Germany.

 

Landing back in the UK in 1984 I worked in the building trade as well as playing in bands and serving on the good ship UB40 (not the band).

 

I returned to my true calling in the late 80's and completed my honours degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), University of Dundee, Scotland.

 

I worked in the design industry before joining my old alma mater as a full-time member of staff in 1996. I spent 10+ years engaged in research that developed interactive computer systems to support people living with dementia.

 

I make artworks, I design things and I teach. I am currently Senior Lecturer & Programme Director in Graphic Design at DJCAD, University of Dundee. The Graphic Design course at DJCAD was rated number 1 in the UK in the Guardian and Design Week league tables in 2017.
